The Best Blogging Cameras: A Quick Overview

What is the Best Camera for Blogging?

Before we go into detailed reviews of the best blogger cameras, it’s important to identify what you should look for when choosing the best camera for you. There are tons of factors to consider when looking for the best camera for bloggers, so let’s dive right into some of the most important ones.

📸 Click here to jump straight to the camera reviews

🏋🏻‍♀️ Weight & Size

Typically, a good camera for blogging is lightweight and compact so that you can easily bring it with you no matter where you go. This is especially important if you’re a travel or lifestyle blogger because you’ll want a small and portable device that complements your on-the-go lifestyle. Be sure to check out the weight of the cameras (which I provide in each review) to make sure it suits your requirements.

📹 Full Articulated / Tilting LCD Screen

If you plan to vlog or create high-quality videos, it’s important to look for a camera that has either a fully articulated or tilting LCD touchscreen. This will allow you to shoot from flexible angles and to be able to see yourself while you’re recording. In fact, most cameras bloggers use have this feature, and if you’re planning to create captivating vlogs or take high-quality selfies, make sure to look out for it when choosing your camera. (Almost every camera recommended in this guide has this feature.)

🌙 Low Light Performance

If you’ll be shooting in low-light conditions (such as sunrises and sunsets) or places that lack natural lighting (which is likely if you’re a travel, lifestyle, or food blogger), then it’s important to look at the ISO range of your potential camera. For beginners, the ISO is your camera’s sensitivity to light. As you increase the ISO, your camera’s sensor will capture more light without opening up the aperture or reducing the shutter speed. You’ll therefore want to consider a camera that has a large ISO range (such as the Sony Alpha A7 III) as well as low-noise at high ISO settings to ensure the best image quality.

🎞️ 4K Video Resolution

If you plan to vlog, then consider choosing a camera with at least 4K (3840 x 2160) video resolution so that your videos will look crisp and clear even on large-screens. You could settle for cameras with only Full HD (1080p) resolution, but this will risk your content appearing pixelated when zoomed in or blown up. Most cameras used by bloggers who are serious about video quality have the ability to shoot 4K, and it’s a feature you should definitely look for especially if you’re planning to start your own YouTube channel. (Almost every camera recommended in this guide offers at least 4K resolution.)

👁️ Autofocus Performance

Fast and accurate autofocus is definitely an important thing to look for in the best camera for a blogger. To get the sharpest and clearest photos and videos, you need your camera to be able to focus on your subject quickly and accurately. Ideally, your camera should also be able to lock focus on moving subjects and track them wherever they go. This comes in especially handy for fast movement selfies (for fashion and lifestyle bloggers) and when capturing wildlife (for travel bloggers). Look out for the number of focus points in each camera in this guide; the more focus points it has, the better it will be at tracking moving subjects.

🏃🏽‍♀️ Max Burst Rate (Continuous Shooting Speed)

If you plan to capture lots of fast movement shots, then the max burst rate (AKA continuous shooting speed) of a camera is important to consider. For beginners: to shoot continuously, you will need to put your camera on continuous shooting mode and hold down the shutter button after pressing it. Your camera will then take quick consecutive shots without pause to capture fast movements such as dress-flicking and running.

The max burst rate of a camera is the number of consecutive photos it can take before the buffer (the camera’s internal memory) is full. This is measured by FPS (or Frames Per Second). If you’re a fashion, travel, or lifestyle blogger who plans to take tons of dynamic photos (be it wildlife or dress twirls), then consider getting a camera with a max burst rate of at least 10 FPS — the higher the better, obviously. Be sure to also use a fast memory card such as the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO.

⚖️ Image Stabilization

If you plan to shoot handheld (whether it’s photos or videos), then getting a camera with built-in image stabilization is a huge advantage. This feature will allow you to achieve smooth and blur-free photos and videos even if your hands are shaky or if the lighting is dim. Some cameras on this guide don’t come with in-body image stabilization, so you’ll need to pair them with lenses that come with image stabilization if this feature is important to you. If that’s the case, make sure the camera isn’t a point and shoot!

🎤 Audio Quality

If you plan to vlog, then you need a camera with reliable audio quality. Typically, a good camera for video blogging will come with at least a microphone port and ideally even a headphone jack to help you monitor audio. Most cameras recommended in this guide have at least a microphone port, and one of them (the Sony Alpha A7 III) has both a microphone and headphone jack. It can be hard to find a camera that comes with both and that is still portable enough for blogging, but luckily there are many ways you can add a headphone jack to your camera even if it doesn’t come with one.

🔭 Range of Lenses

Another thing to consider when looking for the best cameras for bloggers is the range of lenses the camera is compatible with. If you’re a photography beginner who’s literally just starting out, then this might not be as important to you, and you’ll probably be happy with simply a point and shoot such as the Panasonic Lumix LX10 (which has fixed lenses). But if you’d like to have more creative control, then consider choosing a camera like the Sony A6400 or the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III, which are compatible with a wide selection of prime, wide-angle, macro, and telephoto lenses.

📷 Point and Shoot vs. Mirrorless vs. DSLR

Last but not least, consider what kind of camera you’re looking for. Here’s a very basic rundown of what you can expect from the three kinds of cameras available.

Point and shoot: These cameras are typically the most lightweight, compact, and portable. They also provide the least amount of creative control compared to mirrorless and DSLR cameras. If you’re a beginner who just wants a simple device that fits in your pocket and are happy to let the camera decide what’s best for the photo, then get a point and shoot.

Mirrorless: Mirrorless cameras are bigger and heavier than point and shoot cameras. They also offer a lot more creative control and better performance in general. These cameras have larger sensors, so you’ll get better details as well as better image quality in low-light situations. Mirrorless cameras also typically provide the best video quality due to their live view autofocus. You can find many mirrorless cameras in this guide such as the Canon EOS M50 that perform just as well as DSLRs.

DSLR: Generally speaking, there isn’t any discernible difference between the results of many high-quality mirrorless cameras (especially the ones with full-frame sensors) and DSLRs. DSLRs are typically heavier, bigger, and more expensive than mirrorless cameras, which is why only one of them (the compact Canon EOS 6D Mark II) is recommended in this guide. To be completely honest, having practiced photography for 15+ years, I don’t think you need a DSLR camera for blogging and are better off spending less on more portable mirrorless options.

Detailed Review
📸 What makes it the best compact camera for travel blogging:

The Panasonic Lumix LX10 is the perfect travel camera for those who prefer to pack as light as possible. It’s also the best camera for beginner bloggers who aren’t looking to spend too much and who don’t need too many fancy features. This point and shoot camera is very easy and enjoyable to use, as well as super lightweight and compact — the perfect travel companion. It also delivers stunning high-quality 4K photos with low noise and can shoot 4K videos at 30 FPS for up to 15 minutes. Its size-to-performance ratio is ultimately what makes it so attractive.

The Panasonic Lumix LX10 has a great autofocus system that shows no delay in good lighting conditions and only minimal delay in low-light situations. It also successfully keeps a lock on moving subjects even when they change direction. You can also tap the screen to focus. The noise level on this camera is quite low even at ISO 1600, although applying noise reduction to images at higher sensitivities does get rid of a decent amount of details and color saturation.

The quality of 4K recording on the Panasonic Lumix LX10 is great, and you can even pull 4K-resolution stills from your videos. This point and shoot camera obviously doesn’t have an interchangeable-lens system, but its F1.4-2.8 24-72mm LEICA DC lens is quite impressive. For travel bloggers, the bright f/1.4 aperture of this lens will come in handy when shooting in low-light conditions such as sunsets. This camera also has excellent image stabilization and an LCD touchscreen that can tilt 180° upward for easy selfie photos on the road.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix LX10 is a great bang for your buck if you value the size of the camera above anything else. Given its smaller sensor and price, it obviously doesn’t compare to the aforementioned Sony Alpha A7 III when it comes to image quality or range of functionalities. However, at its price point and size, it’s hard to find a better contender; the Panasonic Lumix LX10 is definitely one of the best cameras for bloggers who travel light.

Pros
  • Very lightweight & compact
  • High quality 4K videos & photos
  • Fast & accurate autofocus
  • Low noise level
  • Excellent size-to-performance ratio
  • Bright f/1.4 aperture on its lens
  • Built-in image stabilization
  • 180° upward tilting LCD for selfies
  • Affordable; great value for money
  • Smartphone connection via Wi-Fi
Cons
  • No viewfinder
  • Lack of proper grip
  • 260-shot battery life
  • Cannot change lenses
  • No ND filter (not good for long exposure shots)
  • No downward LCD tilt
  • No microphone port nor headphone jack

Detailed Review
📸 What makes it the best mid-range camera for travel blogging:

The Nikon Z50 is the best travel blogging camera for you if you prefer something more advanced than a point and shoot but don’t need something as powerful as the full-frame Sony Alpha A7 III. The moderately priced Nikon Z50 is a great middle-ground between the two and is very travel-friendly. This mirrorless camera produces amazing image and video quality and is a good upgrade from the aforementioned Panasonic Lumix LX10: it has a microphone port for vlogs, a bigger ISO range, more focus points, and a better battery life.

One of the best things about the Nikon Z50 is how light and compact it is. You can easily slide it into a small messenger bag and won’t need to carry a proper camera bag for it during your trips. Despite its small size, this camera is capable of more than just holiday snaps. It has an amazing max burst rate of 11 FPS and a tilting LCD touchscreen, which comes in handy for street travel photography, vlogging, and selfies.

The Nikon Z50 can also capture uncropped 4K videos. Of course, if vlogging is your main focus and you want the utmost quality and blur-free videos, you should skip this camera and go with the aforementioned Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III. However, if you aren’t too fussed about super smooth footage and would prefer a camera with a larger ISO range, then the Nikon Z50 is a great choice.

Compared to the more powerful Sony Alpha A7 III (the overall best camera for travel blogging), the Nikon Z50 has half of its battery life, around 500 fewer focus points, and a smaller sensor which means lower image quality. The Nikon Z50 also doesn’t have built-in image stabilization nor a headphone jack (both of which can be found in the Sony competitor) but it is considerably lighter than the Sony Alpha A7 III, which makes it a better choice for light travelers.

Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Beautiful uncropped 4K videos
  • Light, compact & portable
  • Tilting LCD for vlogs & selfies
  • Good grip & great handling
  • Max burst rate of 11 FPS
  • Smartphone connection via Wi-Fi & Bluetooth
  • Great value for money
Cons
  • No built-in image stabilization
  • No headphone jack
  • 320-shot battery life
  • Single UHS-I SD card slot
  • Tilting screen can’t be used with tripod
  • Limited range of compatible lenses

📸 What makes it the best fashion blogger camera:

The Fujifilm X-T30 is a charming and stylish camera packed with features that fashion bloggers would love. First of all, this camera is very light, compact, and easy to carry. It also shoots excellent Cinema 4K (4096 x 2160) videos for those who want to create fashion vlogs. Its minimalistic retro design is perfect for style-conscious bloggers, and the device itself is very easy to use and has a solid, strong build.

One aspect that makes the Fujifilm X-T30 one of the best cameras for fashion bloggers is its incredible max burst rate of 20 FPS uncropped. It can also shoot continuously at 30 FPS with a 1.25x crop using the electronic shutter. All of this comes in incredibly handy for fast movement shots such as dress-flicking and twirling. This camera also has a superb autofocus system with Face + Eye Detection, which tracks movement. The Fujifilm X-T30 has a tilting LCD touchscreen that’s perfect for vlogging and produces high-quality images with amazing colors. Noise level is also low even at higher ISO settings.

For its price point, it’s hard to beat the Fujifilm X-T30, especially if you plan to do lots of vlogging. This camera is also very suitable for travel fashion content, so long as you don’t mind the lack of in-body image stabilization or the fact that there isn’t much of a grip. In fact, the Fujifilm X-T30 isn’t ideal for large-handed users and also doesn’t provide much support for heavy or long lenses. But if you’re looking for a stylish and minimalistic device that captures fast movement as well as high-quality videos, then this is the camera for you.

As a lifestyle blogger, you might want to capture lots of different aspects of your life, so it’s good to have a device that’s easy and convenient to bring around no matter where you go or what the situation is. This is why the Google Pixel 4a smartphone is a better choice than an actual camera; it’s the most portable and compact photo device you can get and better yet — you can instantly upload to your social channels and easily give real-time updates to your audience.

There are two cameras on this smartphone that produce excellent image quality: a rear 12.2MP f/1.7 one and a front 8MP f/2.0 one. You can choose from a handful of modes such as portrait (if you want bokeh) and panorama. This phone can also shoot 4K videos at 30fps and 1080p videos at 30fps, 60fps, and 120fps — perfect for Instagram Stories. The Google Pixel 4a also comes with Night Sight, which produces very decent low-light photos too.

This smartphone’s display is very bright, responsive, and completely bezel-less. Its battery life should last you an entire day, and perhaps one of its biggest perks is that it can be comfortably used with just one hand, which is not something you can find in a lot of smartphones these days! In fact, the compact Google Pixel 4a is not only easy to use, but its rounded edges and polycarbonate material also make it easy to hold.

All in all, the Google Pixel 4a is the perfect match for lifestyle bloggers; it makes photo-taking extremely easy and facilitates instant social updates. Given that it’s a phone, you also won’t have to debate with yourself about whether or not you should bring your “camera” before going out — the Google Pixel 4a can accompany you anywhere and make sure that every shareable moment is captured!

Detailed Review
📸 What makes it the best camera for food blogging:

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is a very easy-to-use and small full-frame DSLR. When it comes to food blogging, color accuracy is very important. For this reason, you’re better off choosing a Canon camera over any other brands (such as Nikon or Sony) because Canon is known to produce the most accurate and beautiful colors. The Canon EOS 6D Mark II will especially impress you with its remarkable image quality and stunning, realistic colors thanks to its 26.2 MP full-frame sensor and its excellent image processor.

Weighing 765 g (26.9 oz.), the Canon EOS 6D Mark II is one of the lightest full-frame DSLRs out there. It also has an incredible 1200-shot battery life. Most importantly, this camera performs very well in low light and has a fantastic high ISO performance. Noise level is minimal even at ISO 4000, and you can still get satisfactory results up to ISO 12,800 with some post-processing. If you’re a food blogger, this is important because you’ll probably have to shoot indoors a lot, which doesn’t always guarantee good natural lighting.

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II also has a fully articulated touchscreen which lets you compose from any angle and shoots superb Full HD (1080p) videos, so it’s a great camera for food vlogs as well. In addition, this camera has built-in image stabilization so you don’t have to worry about blurs when shooting handheld. Its autofocus is also very fast and accurate, producing sharp results even in dark conditions. With these qualities, it’s not hard to see why the Canon EOS 6D Mark II is one of the best cameras for food bloggers, so long as you don’t mind its lack of 4K video!

Pros
  • Incredible color accuracy
  • Remarkable image & video quality
  • Fantastic low-light performance
  • Vlog-friendly: fully articulated LCD
  • Built-in image stabilization
  • Very fast & accurate autofocus
  • 1200-shot battery life
  • Comfortable grip
  • Wide range of Canon EF lenses
  • Smartphone connection via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & NFC
Cons
  • No 4K video
  • No headphone port
  • Only one card slot

Detailed Review
📸 What makes it the best cheap camera for blogging:

The Panasonic Lumix FZ80 / FZ82 is definitely one of the best cameras for bloggers on a budget simply because for its very low price point, you get incredible value. With that said, this camera is definitely more aimed towards beginners rather than individuals who are more experienced with photography. This point and shoot is incredibly easy to use, versatile, and produces beautiful 4K photos and videos.

One of the best things about the Panasonic Lumix FZ80 / FZ82 is its large 20-1200mm zoom range, which makes it suitable for all types of photography, from everyday shots to travel photos. This camera also comes with very effective image stabilization, which performs reliably even when shooting at the maximum focal length of 1200mm. Autofocus is lightning-fast and locks onto subjects almost instantly once you press the shutter button halfway. There’s also Face + Eye Detection which can identify and track moving subjects.

For its very low price point, it’s very impressive that this camera shoots 4K videos at up to 30 fps. It also has a built-in microphone, but no socket for an external mic. One downside of this camera is that its small sensor will lead to some noise even at ISO 100. Generally speaking, you wouldn’t be able to get satisfactory results past ISO 1600, where the noise level will be pretty high. This is why this camera is aimed at beginners and amateurs who most likely wouldn’t mind this drawback.

All in all, when you consider all the fantastic features of this camera and how easy it is to use, it’s not hard to see the incredible value it offers for its very low price. The Panasonic Lumix FZ80 / FZ82 may not have the most outstanding image quality or a tilting LCD screen, but it definitely is one of the best cameras for blogging beginners who are looking to take more creative control.

Pros
  • Very easy to use & beginner-friendly
  • Versatile 20-1200mm zoom range
  • Built-in image stabilization
  • Lightning-fast autofocus with tracking
  • Shoots 4K videos at 30 fps
  • Built-in microphone
  • Smartphone connection via Wi-Fi
  • Amazing value for money
Cons
  • Fixed LCD screen; can’t tilt nor flip
  • No electronic viewfinder (EVF)
  • Some noise even at ISO 100
  • 330-shot battery life
  • Cannot change lenses (since it’s a point and shoot)
